Yes. A Rotary eClub is a full Rotary club, chartered by Rotary International and holding the same standing as a club that meets in person. Its members are full Rotarians, it elects a Board and officers, it runs service projects, and it supports The Rotary Foundation. Since 2016, Rotary's own governing documents have drawn no distinction between an eClub and a traditional club at all. We are one such club: Rotary eClub Ibiza International (ReCII), chartered in 2024 and a member of Rotary International's District 2203 in Spain. For what an eClub is in the first place, see what a Rotary eClub is.
Does Rotary International recognise eClubs as full clubs?
Yes. An eClub is a chartered club - a club formally admitted to Rotary International - and carries the same recognition as any other.
In 2016, Rotary's Council on Legislation, the body that amends Rotary's constitution and bylaws, voted to remove the distinction between eClubs and traditional clubs. It concluded that, since clubs were already meeting in many different ways, the separate label no longer meant anything. References to eClubs were taken out of Rotary's governing documents, though clubs are still free to keep "eClub" in their name if they wish. In Rotary's own rules, then, there is now simply one kind of Rotary club, however it chooses to meet.
Are eClub members full Rotarians?
Yes. A member of an eClub is a Rotarian - a member of a Rotary club, with the same standing, recognition, and obligations as a member of any other club.
eClub members elect their officers, serve on the Board, run and join service projects, and contribute to The Rotary Foundation. They can hold district and international roles, attend Rotary conventions, and take part in the wider work of Rotary on the same footing as anyone else. The format of the meeting has no bearing on a member's status as a Rotarian.
Can an eClub apply for Rotary Foundation grants?
Yes. An eClub can apply for grants from The Rotary Foundation on the same terms as any other Rotary club
The Foundation's two main grant types - district grants, for smaller local and international projects, and global grants, for larger international ones - are open to any club that has completed the Foundation's annual qualification process. Eligibility depends on a club's standing and its stewardship of funds, never on whether it meets online or in person. An eClub that qualifies applies exactly as a traditional club does.
Is ReCII a real Rotary club?
Yes. Rotary eClub Ibiza International is a chartered club within Rotary International, admitted in 2024 and belonging to District 2203 in Spain.
We elect our Board each Rotary year, run member-led service projects, and support The Rotary Foundation, in common with every other club in the district. What sets us apart is local and practical: we are the English-language club on Ibiza / Eivissa, and we meet mostly online. In every way that Rotary measures, we are a Rotary club like any other. To see how the eClub model compares with a traditional club, see a Rotary eClub and a traditional club compared; for our place on the island, see English-speaking Rotary in Ibiza.
