ReCII to Host IRCE Community Forum 2027 in Ibiza
From Rome to Ibiza: We're Hosting the
IRCE Community Forum Weekend 2027!
There's some rather exciting news from Rome! Ibiza has been selected to host the IRCE Community Forum Weekend in 2027, and the announcement was greeted with enthusiastic applause at the October 2026 gathering.
ReCII member Jörg Fabri was there to enjoy the occasion, having travelled to Rome to meet fellow Rotarians from across Europe, exchange ideas and take part in the forum's workshops.
For Rotary eClub Ibiza International (ReCII), chartered only in 2024, the opportunity to welcome our European Rotary friends to Ibiza is wonderful news. We're especially pleased by the enthusiasm already shown by fellow Rotary clubs in the Balearics, who have been quick to offer encouragement and support.
IRCE: A Rather Wonderful Idea
IRCE stands for International Rotary Clubs of Europe, a network bringing together approximately 125 international, predominantly English-speaking Rotary clubs across the continent.
The idea is to help clubs share their experience, learn from successful projects and find opportunities to work together. All enormously useful, of course, but there's something else about IRCE that we find particularly exciting.
Imagine the friendships that could develop through a network like this. Wherever you travel in Europe, there's the possibility of knowing a fellow Rotarian, someone to meet for a coffee, exchange professional ideas with or perhaps work alongside on a future project.
For members of an international club such as ReCII, that's a terrific prospect. Rotary already gives us friends and contacts around the world, and IRCE offers a way to bring our European clubs and their members into much closer contact.
A definite hat tip to the founders of IRCE for recognising that potential and putting the work into making it happen!
A Weekend of Ideas, Italian Hospitality
and New Friends
Jörg first heard about IRCE through Denise Klischan, ReCII's founding President (2024–25), and became involved in its early working groups. The gathering in Rome, hosted by Rotary Club Rome International, gave him the chance to see how the initiative was developing and meet many of the people involved.
There was plenty to get through. The workshops tackled some familiar Rotary questions: how to attract younger members, strengthen a club's identity, develop projects with clubs in other countries and make the best use of available funds. Raising money for the everyday costs of running a club was also on the agenda.
A presentation on artificial intelligence explored ways in which Rotary clubs might use the technology to save time and work more efficiently.
Jörg came away with several ideas he hopes to bring into ReCII's own discussions. And with IRCE now holding monthly calls and working-group meetings, there will be plenty of opportunities to keep those conversations going.
The Italians, meanwhile, proved to be wonderful hosts.
Jörg described a genuinely warm welcome, a good balance between workshops and social time, and an elegant gala dinner to round off an intensive day. One moment that particularly moved him came when the Italian national anthem was followed by Beethoven's Ode to Joy, the European anthem.
He was equally enthusiastic about the people he met. Conversations with Rotarians from different countries gave him a much more personal understanding of their cultures and communities than he might ordinarily gain through the media.
And he returned home with some new friendships
As Jörg rather beautifully observed, "Next time we will no longer meet each other as strangers."
Which, when you think about it, is a lovely prospect for everyone involved in IRCE.
Ibiza 2027: And Now It's Our Turn!
Towards the end of the Rome gathering came the announcement that Ibiza had been selected to host IRCE in 2027. Judging by the applause, our island has quite an enthusiastic audience among Europe's international Rotarians!
We're absolutely delighted, and have been particularly charmed by the warmth and energy of our fellow Rotary clubs in the Balearic Islands.
Our friends at Rotary Club Calvià International in Mallorca have already expressed their willingness to contribute, and we are very much looking forward to working more closely with them and other Balearic clubs as preparations get under way.
There's also a lovely piece of Rotary history to acknowledge. Rotary Club de Mallorca, the first Rotary club in the Balearic Islands, was founded in December 1926 and celebrates its centenary in 2026. It's a rather special anniversary for Rotary in the Balearics as we begin looking ahead to welcoming our European friends next year.
And naturally, we're looking forward to showing off Ibiza a little!
We want our visiting Rotarians to enjoy the islands, get to know their Balearic colleagues and have plenty of opportunities to continue the conversations and friendships that began in Rome.
For Jörg, the Rome forum demonstrated just how much international Rotary clubs can learn from one another. For ReCII, hosting the next gathering is a chance to take part in that European community in a very hands-on way.
There's plenty to look forward to, and we'll share more information about the IRCE Community Forum Weekend 2027 as the plans take shape.

The lead image was created using artificial intelligence to illustrate the spirit of international Rotary fellowship we look forward to welcoming to Ibiza in 2027.
It is an imagined scene, rather than a photograph of an actual event.
